In the hilly part of the Val di Chiana, with the Chiana – Orcia ridge of hills behind us (forming views from Montepulciano & Siena rooms) and the gently undulating Sinalunga end of the Val di Chiana extending out below us find Siena House. It’s a super location; with pretty, un – touristy areas on our ‘doorstep’ (in truth accessible only by car) yet with good access to North South routes (for Rome & Florence, Siena, Arezzo & Perugia).
Malvin spent 10 years scouring Tuscany and Umbria before settling on this property. He was looking for a characterful house, in a typical Tuscan landscape, idyllic in it’s environs yet within easy reach of a host of key visits: gorgeous Tuscan hill towns, wineries, Abbeys, great drives and chic cities. Here you can eat local style, at local prices, choosing from several characterful places serving great food within 10 minutes’ easy drive. From here you can get to some top Tuscany destinations very easily, or just stay home and relax.
We are about 40 minutes from the historic city centre of Siena Province, Sienna. Our local town is TORRITA DI SIENA – Little Tower of Siena. Florence is one hour North (without traffic delays) and Rome is 2 hours South (ditto) It’s a 10 minute drive to the motorway. An important stop in Tuscany for North-South Milan-Rome travelers for centuries, our area is vibrant & non touristy. Surrounded by great visits – if you ‘re only here for a couple of nights you’re going to have a hard time choosing what to do. Medieval Hill Towns all around us; we see seven from the house. PERUGIA (airport and city) the capital of Umbria is about an hour away. From here you can get deep into UMBRIA with a 45 /+ minute drive. You can get deep into CHIANTI in an hour (it begins at 20 mins away) or to SAN GIMIGNANO or ASSISI travelling by car for about 80 minutes. You could get to VOLTERRA in an hour and a half. PISA & LUCCA are just over 2 hours. ORVIETO one hour. A day trip to FLORENCE (just over an hour away) is certainly not out of the question, either…Much closer to home a host of Southern Tuscan Favourites, small towns that are super to experience for a morning or an afternoon or just a quick stroll to taste the atmosphere: Montepulciano, Pienza, Cortona, Lucignano, Montefollonico…If you’re wondering where to base yourself in Tuscany – this is a great base to explore from!
