Road to Montalcino : Bagno Vignone
Heading out to Montalcino from Siena House via Pienza (25 min away) you’ll be at the tiny Roman spa village of Bagno Vignone in about 40 minutes. Journey time is based on not stopping; which is difficult – any time of year. Here it is in August.
Go full hot baths experience (2-3 hours) or for a quick taste; dip your bare feet in the hot rivulets on the side of the hill whilst you admire the view. In the summer the best time to enjoy the latter (as it’s a popular spot) is in the morning – so if you’d like to head out early order your breakfast ‘take out’ and we’ll send you off with a picnic basket!
Find the original Roman bath in the centre of town – with a couple of cafes, a very interesting Apothecary and great place for a casual ‘by weight’ lunch of cold cuts, cheeses and ‘sott’oli’.
From here carry on towards Montalcino (D.O.C.G Brunello di Montalcino Wine) Monte Amiata, Radicofani, the northern part of Grossetto province, Cinigiano & Seggiano (D.O.C.G Montecucco Wine)
